Configure Virtual catalog
Target database (dev)
$ export ORACLE_SID=dev
~]$ sqlplus / as sysdba
SQL> startup
SQL> exit
~]$ netmgr (create tns)→ (service name=Catalog database name)
~]$ tnsping tovcat
Catalog database (test)
SQL> conn / as sysdba
SQL> grant connect,resource,recovery_catalog_owner to vcat Identified by vcat;
SQL> grant connect,resource,recovery_catalog_owner to vcat1 identified by vcat1;
Target database (dev)
]$ rman target / catalog cat/cat@tovcat
RMAN> register database;
Catalog database (test)
SQL> conn cat/cat
SQL> select * from rc_database;
Target database (dev)
RMAN> list db_unique_name all;
Target database (prod)
RMAN> list db_unique_name all;
Catalog database (test)
SQL> exit
~]$ rman catalog cat/cat
RMAN> grant catalog for database prod to vcat1;
Target database (prod)
RMAN> exit
~]$ rman target / catalog vcat1/vcat1@tocat
RMAN> create virtual catalog;
RMAN> list db_unique_name all;
RMAN> exit
Catalog database (test)
RMAN> grant catalog for database dev to vcat;
Target database (dev)
RMAN> exit
~]$ rman target / catalog vcat/vcat@tovcat
RMAN> create virtual catalog;
RMAN> list db_unique_name all;
End of virtual catalog topic
Now for proda database backup information will be store in virtual catalog as well
as base catalog.
Target database(prod)
$ rman target / catalog vcat1/vcat1@tocat
RMAN> show all;
RMAN> CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
RMAN> CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 2;
RMAN> CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 30 DAYS;
RMAN> CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION ON;
RMAN> show all;
To execute multiple commands at a time.
RMAN> run
2> {
3> backup datafile 4;
4> backup current controlfile;
5> }
RMAN> exit
